Graphite, ink, and pigment drawing on paper titled “Emerging Flowers” by Chilean artist Luis Mandiola Uribe, featuring delicate lines, layered tones, and a poetic air.
Emerging Flowers (Flores Nacientes) is an original drawing on paper in which three luminous organic forms emerge from a dark, textured background, supported by delicate stems. These forms—ethereal, floral, and glowing—float above a dense oval field, rendered with fine graphite and pigment strokes that create a deep and vibrant surface. The contrast between the illuminated upper shapes and the darkness below gives the work a sense of emergence: they are beings in the process of being born, neither fully botanical nor entirely luminous.
In the lower part of the work, Mandiola’s brushwork creates an almost sculptural density: each small mark is part of a larger accumulation that generates texture and atmosphere. The stems supporting the luminous forms are thin and fragile, their slenderness accentuating the feeling of delicate growth.
This drawing reflects one of the recurring concerns in Mandiola’s work on paper: the threshold between darkness and emergence, the moment just before the total resolution of form. The circular framing of the dark field concentrates this tension, granting the composition a ritualistic character. An original and unique work by the Chilean artist Luis Mandiola Uribe.
“Technique: Pigment ink and graphite on paper. Year 2015. 19.1 x 15.2 in.”
The work is offered as a unique original piece. It is part of Mandiola’s ongoing investigation into organic form, light, and the threshold between the visible and the imaginary.
